Detail of the peghead volute and overlay on the back of the neck for Koa/Adirondack GC16.  The neck is striped hondouran mahogany with a curly maple ribbon.  The volute overlay is ebony/maple /ebony.  The volute is a geometric transition between two different dimensions and angles at the junction of neck and peghead.

This is a sequence of photos showing the resaw of a nice block of figured white oak crotch.  The piece was rescued from the woodpile after being rejected as unsplittable.  The properties that saved it from the wood stove are readily visible as figure in the three cuts.
